Edoki Acdemy Internship

Designing for the young

Edoki Academy was a small independent game studio of about 10 in Montreal, who were celebrating 10,000 subscribers during my time there. Creating games for young children under the age of 4. Due to the majority of the team being native French speakers with varying levels English, my roles were fairly independent receiving and reporting my tasks to the lead designer. This indipendence is what really helped me grow as a designer being able to get constant critique and learn about what’s expected in the industry.

Montessori Nature

My Role

For Montessori Nature I created multiple possible methods of monetization and helped the company decide and implement the on of their choice. I also balanced the pricing of the game’s items to accommodate the new monetization method chosen.

Gameplay

In Montessori Nature players grow plants by watering and managing them until they fully bloom and either cropping them or turning them into jam. All the while players have to deal with the changing weather and seasons and stopping animals from ruining the crop. Selling these crops and jams gives players the chance to buy other types of crops as well as gardening items to which make the game easier.

Wheels on the Bus

MY ROLE

I designed and created the levels for this game’s driving section using the mechanics provided to me. Those mechanics being stopping, weather, turning, and multiple routes. Additionally I created mode’s scoring system.

GAMEPLAY

In the driving mode players must drive a bus and pick up children bringing the to a destination, be it school, the library or home. They should also stop for chickens to cross the road as well as drive through rain and snow.

Old MacDonald

MY ROLE

I pitched and led the pre-production of the Old MacDonald sing and play game. This mostly involved working on the interactive portions of the song such as finding the hiding farmer and each of the animals interactions.

GAMEPLAY

Following the gameplay of the company’s previous sing-along games players must find and click on a specific character before the song continues. Such as clicking a pig to go “oink-oink“ in the song.

My Role

One of my first roles at the company was leading the updates for the 2018 Easter update, which included a collecting mini-game finding Easter eggs in the game’s hub world. I would make video tutorials for players and parents to understand the lessons being taught. As well as testing this game and others for bugs.
